Whisky water jugs have been around a long time. You may see vintage ones on ebay from Bells or Glenfiddich. They are a jug for adding water to your whisky, and traditionally were kept on the bar of a pub to help yourself.
Ooshky is a whisky water jug in that sense, but it is also so much more as it lets you control the flow making it more like a pipette, water dropper or, if you free pour, a jug all in one.
It can take a little practice to get it right but make sure the large hole is fully covered with your thumb. If you can’t do this with your thumb pad, then try using your thumb joint. If you still can’t get a seal then let us know and we can look at a replacement with a smaller hole.
When pouring, tilt about 45°, and make sure the thumb hole is pointing up. If it is pointing to the side at all then when you release your thumb you may spill some of the water inside.
It is best to release very briefly for a splash and do this multiple times than doing a longer one and potentially adding too much.
If you want just a few drops, keep the hole covered fully, hold the jug at 45° and shake it up and down jerking it on the down motion.

Ooshky holds up to 50ml of water. A typical splash with a quick release of the thumb gives about 2.5ml. A typical whisky will only need one to two splashes or less, so you should get enough for 10-20 drams before needing to refill.
There’s no difference in function, the only difference is the material. The glass one you can see the water inside which is quite fun. Some people find the ceramic feels more robust and is more unusual, others like the clarity of the glass and how it looks next to other items they have at home. It’s purely a personal preference.
No no no. Put your whisky in a glass, and put water in your ooshky. Then use the large hole covered with your thumb to control the flow of water adding to whisky. If you want something to put whisky in, you want a decanter!
They say to drink whisky how you like but I challenge you to add a few drops and taste the difference. Honestly, you might be missing out.
If you (or the person you are buying for) really doesn’t like water in their dram, then check out our other whisky gifts available. Nice glassware, tasting books, cocktail cards and a journal. If they like whisky, we have you covered.
